About M. Carmen Matei, MD

Dr. Matei is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist experienced in treating all types of cancers. She is one of the breast cancer specialists caring for patients at the Colorado Springs Penrose Pavilion cancer center. 

Dr. Matei has a special passion for treating all types of breast cancer including: hormone-positive breast cancer, HER2-positive breast cancer, metastatic breast cancer, inflammatory breast cancer, and triple-negative breast cancer -- each with a plan that’s specific to each patient’s needs.

To develop the right plan, Dr. Matei participates in the breast cancer tumor board with other specialists involved in the process of treating breast cancer. This includes pathologists, breast cancer surgeons, radiation oncologists, and other subspecialists. Together they review the test results and images for each breast cancer patient to create a comprehensive treatment plan. Dr. Matei regularly attends national breast cancer conferences to stay up to date on the latest breast cancer treatment options and best practices brought to us through clinical research. She also actively participates in the clinical research program at Rocky Mountain Breast Specialists, giving patients access to breast cancer clinical trials.
