Advanced system serves 4 locations, combines two types of scanning in one

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, CO – Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers (RMCC) this month took delivery of a new PET/CT mobile coach, representing the latest in imaging technology available to patients and physicians.

The scanner on the coach is a 16-slice PET/CT scanner manufactured by GE Healthcare.  The Discovery STE imaging system will provide scanning services to RMCC patients at the Denver-Midtown, Lakewood, Littleton and Thornton locations.  It combines computed tomography (CT), which provides highly detailed pictures of the patient’s anatomy, with positron emission tomography (PET), which for oncology helps physicians determine whether a suspicious growth is cancerous or benign.

“We are excited to offer the latest PET/CT scanner available in Colorado to our patients on a mobile platform,” said Elaine McDonald, RMCC Imaging Services Director.  “Having the latest scanner on a coach like this enables us to efficiently serve patients at multiple locations throughout our network.”

The scanner’s VUE Point Reconstruction provides flexibility for outstanding image quality in all types of patients in both 2D and 3D modes.  Its RAD Rx application provides simultaneous attenuation correction with variable CT scan parameters, such as slice thickness.

RMCC provides imaging services to approximately 200 patients per week at nine locations in Colorado (Aurora, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Denver-Midtown, Lakewood, Littleton, Lone Tree-Sky Ridge, Longmont and Thornton) using three fixed scanners and two mobile coaches.  The Discovery STE mobile coach features a customized interior and replaces a mobile CT coach that had been in service since 2005.
